Super Powers in The Bible

Who wants a super power? If you could pick one, which one would it be? Flight? Super strength? Invulnerability? Acid vomit? How about energy projection, or rapid healing?

It's fun to pretend. But there were some instances in history of super-abilities, namely, in the Bible. We'll leave out Moses, who was covered somewhat in an earlier post, Satanic Miracles.
First off:

Samson. The man had super strength. Super-stamina, too. He killed a thousand Philistines at one time with a donkey's jawbone. He ripped up the city's gates and carried them 30 miles away, depositing them on a hill.

He killed 30 men and stole their clothes to give as a reward to a group of dudes who figured out his riddle. He killed a lion bare-handed. And of course, he pushed over the pillars that held up the Temple of Dagon, killing himself and 3,000 other people.

Take that!
So, how did he get all that power? Magic pill? Radioactive camel? Nope.
From The Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit, man!
Whenever the Spirit came upon Samson, he gained massive strength and stamina. God wanted a warrior who could free His people from the Philistine oppression. So He gave Samson power to do so.

As a side note, several other men in the Old Testament were hardy warriors, like David who killed 200 of those Philistines, Shamgar killed 600 men with an ox goad, and Abishai who killed 300 men with a spear.
God gives you what you need, when you need it.

Next up, Jesus. He healed people, raised the dead, and multiplied food. He also knew things that that others did not. Like seeing Nathanael under the tree when He couldn't actually see him. Where did His power come from? Again, the Holy Spirit. When He became human, He allowed The Spirit to give Him power, rather than using His own divinity.
But here's an interesting power: When Jesus was resurrected, He displayed a strange ability to appear, disappear, and reappear wherever He wanted. After he spoke with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, he vanished. And most famously, he appeared to the apostles in a locked room. The text does not say he walked through the door, but that He simply appeared there.
Sounds like He teleported.

Yup, Jesus could teleport. And He wasn't the only one...

Move over, Nightcrawler and Vanisher, Philip is here! Philip, a disciple of Christ after Jesus ascended, went and preached to a eunuch from Ethiopia. He was an important man, and was reading the scroll of Isaiah when Philip hopped into his chariot. (super speed?) He explained that Isaiah was talking about Jesus, and the eunuch got saved. He then wanted to get baptized right then and there! Philip did so, and when they popped back up out of the water, Philip was gone. He had been "carried away" by the Spirit, somewhere miles away. Once again, the Holy Spirit was doing some crazy stuff.

Honorable mention: the Two Witnesses in Revelation who breathe fire.

How do you like that? Super powers in the Bible. As stupid as comic books can be, maybe they were on to something. Makes me wonder if Siegel and Shuster got their idea for Superman from their Torah...

  1. Oh my God, what are terrific super powers. Can we have these powers in us? If yes then how I can get these powers?

    1. We don't have these powers at all. God gave them to His people to help others. God, in His infinite wisdom, can bestow miracles to anyone anytime. We don't see teleportation or super strength today. However, we do see healings and other strange things. My children's pastor tells a story of an evangelist who went into a South American country to preach the gospel to a large gathering. He needed an interpreter, as he didn't speak Spanish. Well, the interpreter didn't show! The man decided to trust Jesus and went up to preach anyway. When he opened his mouth, Spanish came out! He not only could now speak it, but also understand it. And he still can today! God "downloaded" Spanish into his brain. God has no limitations!

    2. Correction* We all do have these powers, we can all use them, god doesn't just pick and choose who gets them, it comes down to the limit of our minds, remember the saying the mind is our most powerful weapon? that's your answer.

they had faith in Jesus and as well as themselves meaning they could do these things.

read what it says in the bible

      Matthew 17:20: New International Version
He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

See, it literally says ontop of that, as you see you shall become, which means what we see in our minds we will have in our hands if we have faith.

people can say they have a lot of faith etc but it comes down to mental blockages and the reason people back when Jesus was there could do these things was because they saw the son of god, which gave them huge faith when they saw Jesus preform miracles.

All i'm saying is everything is possible, i mean everything, and nothing will stand in our way

Thanks for reading, have a nice day, night, whenever you're reading this :)

  3. Peace. With GOD's constant help, I've fulfilled the prophecy of The Revelation 5:1-10:11 by having produced the "book/scroll...sealed with 7 seals"/'beyond Einstein theories'; see http://7seals.blogspot.com . According(74) to the Bible, only the 2nd Coming of the Christ can produce this.

  7. Well I've always thought that mental powers (wether its telekenisis, telepathy, etc) COULD be given by God and I dont believe that any power is exclusive to one party but can be manipulated by Satan but God would bestow powers to us for good use

  8. And I'm also making a superhero fanfic about the X Men and instead of Evilutionm only God bestowed us with incredible abilities and it's up to use wether we use our gifts for good or evil, another reason is to make a good quality entertainment for both the world and us Christian's cause I like many others sometimes feel we cannot be a part of something we like cause others make the things we like to read or watch just corrupt with false worldviews and immoral actions

  9. Hi, thank you for your article and the correction you gave earlier about teleportation. I was sent by God to the New Testament Church of God in the island of St. Vincent some years ago and everything about it was supernatural. The travel to get there was natural but while I was there in order to give me insight of thse who were planning to curtail my assignment God transported me into the location where the conversation was taking place and I was able to pray through the opposition and restoration took place etc... I mentioned the church and location for reference so that it does not appear vague and once again thank you.
